Richard Flintham and Andy McLeod, BMP DDB’s star creative team,

have been named the creative directors of Fallon McElligott’s London

start-up.

Flintham and McLeod will be equal partners in the new agency alongside

Robert Senior, Laurence Green and Michael Wall. Fallon McElligott

Minneapolis will retain the majority shareholding in the London shop,

but the start-up is a joint venture between the parent agency and the

five London partners.

The hiring of Flintham and McLeod as partners identifies Fallon

McElligott London as a hot creative agency. The pair’s awards include a

D&AD gold, five D&AD silvers, three BTAA golds, two Cannes Gold lions,

eight Creative Circle golds and this year’s Creative Circle President’s

award.

Their creative work includes the launch of the VW Passat, Walkers

Doritos idents (for which they won the D&AD gold), the ’stamina’

campaign for Sony, the ’love-hate’ campaign for Marmite, and the

Ministry of Sound ’use your vote’ campaign.

Larry Barker, the creative director of BMP, said: ’People with their

talent are only ever on loan. We have been glad of every day we’ve had

them - especially as they have always worked their butts off. They are a

potent combo and if anyone can repeat what Bartle Bogle Hegarty did,

it’s them.’

Flintham, 30, and McLeod, 32, are acknowledged to be London’s most

sought-after creative team, and have also had experience as creative

directors within BMP’s group system. Flintham said: ’At first we wanted

our own place but the integrity of this set-up gives us all the same

chances.’

The agency is expected to set up in its new offices near Regent Street

over the next few weeks. Fallon won the pan-European Lee Jeans account

in April and is pitching for Marston’s as well as three other ’household

names’.

Senior, who, with Wall, joined Fallon from TBWA Simons Palmer, said: ’It

was very important that the five of us are all equal partners. The

agency is owner-managed and the relationships here are based on mutual

respect.’

Flintham and McLeod met ten years ago at Hounslow College and were

offered a job at Butterfield Day Devito Hockney six months before the

end of their course. After four years they moved to Duckworth Finn Grubb

Waters and then to BMP in 1994.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
