Eurosport, the pan-European sports channel, is to part company with
its managing director of UK advertising sales, Tom Toumazis.
Toumazis resigned this week and is set to leave the company, which he
joined two-and-a-half years ago, within the next couple of weeks.
However, he denied reports that he was leaving following a dispute over
Rumours that Toumazis had clashed with Angelo Codignoni, the chief
executive of Eurosport, over whether the sales policy should be more
client or agency oriented, were dismissed by both parties.
Toumazis said he was considering ’a number of prospects that I’ve been
looking at for some time’, but declined to reveal any details of his
He added: ’We’ve built up this market quite aggressively over the time
I’ve been here and I want to try something different.’
Toumazis will be replaced in the short term by Codignoni himself, who
will be moving from Paris to the UK to take charge of the sales and
marketing operation. The channel’s London-based international account
managers will now report directly to Codignoni.
Codignoni said Toumazis had been successful in introducing a range of
clients to Eurosport, and added: ’I am looking forward to developing the
channel’s relationship with agencies and clients.’
Toumazis joined Eurosport in September 1994 with a brief to expand the
sales department and raise its profile. Previously he had worked in ITV
airtime sales, was a managing director of the now-defunct sales house,
Merlin Sales, and, before that, was the head of sales for TVMM.
