LONDON - Nick Brien's appointment as chief executive of McCann Worldgroup heads a raft of senior hires, as Brand Republic rounds up the week's industry moves in advertising, digital, marketing and media.

Nick Brien, the head of IPG's Mediabrands, has replaced John Dooner as the chief executive of McCann Worldgroup. Brien, who was the worldwide chief executive of Mediabrands, will oversee the operations of the entire McCann group, which includes McCann Erickson, Universal McCann and MRM Worldwide. (Campaign)

DDB London's award-winning creative Dylan Harrison is leaving the agency to join Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand as its executive creative director. His departure ends a 10-year stint at the agency where he worked across clients including Volkswagen, Marmite, Budweiser and The Guardian. (Campaign)

SapientNitro, the recently merged integrated agency, has appointed Mindshare's chief strategy officer, Kim Douglas, as its new managing director. According to sources, Douglas is to be joined by Malcolm Poynton, the former executive creative director of Ogilvy, who will oversee the creative operation. Poynton denies the appointment. Dentsu London has hired Beeker Northam, a planner at glue London, as its executive planning director. Working alongside Simon North, the chief executive, she will be responsible for building and running the planning department at the agency as it looks to build a position in London. (Campaign)

Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R has restructured its senior management line-up in an effort to integrate its group offering. The managing director, Russell Hopson, has been promoted to group managing director. Hopson's previous role will be filled by Rupert Williams, the Swarm managing partner. (Campaign)

Leon Jaume, the executive creative director of WCRS, and Steve Aldridge, the creative partner at Partners Andrews Aldridge, have been made executive creative directors of The Engine Group. At the same time, Phil Andrews, the chief executive of PAA, has been appointed as Engine's chief operating officer. They will all retain their positions at their respective agencies. (Campaign)


Digital creative agency Jam has appointed Lisa Keddie in the new role of head of video. Keddie  joins from RealNetworks, where she headed the international video content sites, working on campaigns for clients such as Paramount for its 'Star Trek' release and Warner Bros  for the film 'Where The Wild Things Are'. Steven Falk the former director of marketing at Manchester United Football Club, has launched a sports agency called Star Sports Marketing. Falk, who worked at Manchester United between 2001 and 2009, left the club in October to set up the new venture. (Marketing)

PepsiCo UK & Ireland has appointed Amanda Thomson to the role of UK marketing director, to replace Bruno Gruwez. Gruwez has been promoted to the position of Pepsi-Lipton International business development director for Western Europe. (Marketing) has appointed former consultant at advertising agency Mother, Clare Dobbie, as its marketing director. Reporting to ASOS chief executive Nick Robertson, Dobbie, who takes up her post in March, will also be a member of the operating board. (Marketing)

The Co-operative Group has announced a company-wide restructure that will see some of its top marketing roles being made redundant and the buying and marketing teams in its food business unified under a single leadership. Among the changes, Debbie Robinson, director of food retail marketing and David Messom, director of food retail trading, will both leave the company, with their positions ceasing to exist. Messom will stay with the Co-operative for an unspecified period to assist with the transition. (Marketing)

Standard Life has hired former Barclays marketer Bruce Kelsall to the position of UK marketing director. He replaces Andrew Gillespie, who has left the financial services brand with immediate effect, for "personal reasons". Kelsall will report to Standard Life group chief marketing officer, Simon Gulliford. (Marketing)


IPC has re-jigged publishing responsibilities at its mass-market women's and TV weeklies division IPC Connect. Sandy Gale becomes publishing director of Now, Woman's Weekly and Soaplife. Angela O'Farrell takes on the role of publishing director of Chat, What's on TV, and TV easy. Oswin Grady is now publishing director of Woman, goodtoknow Recipes, and TV & Satellite Week. Niall Clarkson becomes publishing director of Pick Me Up, Woman's Own and TVTimes. Julie Lavington continues in her role as publishing director of Look. (

The Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) has appointed former Smash Hits editor Barry McIlheney as its new chief executive. From February, McIlheney takes on the leadership role at the magazine trade body that has been vacant since Jonathan Shephard's unplanned departure last September. (

Dominic Stead, the former joint managing director of MPG UK, has joined the pitch management consultancy Media Sense. Stead left MPG in September last year to join in-flight media company InviseoMedia as chief executive. (

Mark Smith, former vice-president of corporate finance at Reed Elsevier, has joined Discovery Networks International as vice-president of strategy and mergers and acquisitions. Smith will report to Catherine Mullen, senior vice-president, strategy and digital media at Discovery. (

Jim Marshall, the former executive director of Starcom MediaVest Group and former chairman of the IPA's Futures Group, is joining CRM start-up Media By Permission as non-executive director. Marshall left the Starcom MediaVest Group in September after 28 years at the company. (Campaign)

Iain Jacob, the chief executive of Starcom MediaVest EMEA, is taking on the new role of president global innovation, as part of a major global reorganisation of the SMG network. Jacob will oversee the creation of 10 new global hubs focusing on client needs, the first of which will launch in London. (Campaign)

CBS Outdoor has hired ex-Toyota marketing chief Mike Moran as managing director. Moran will oversee the outdoor media owner's relationships with brand advertisers and stakeholders, reporting to international chief executive, Antonio Alonso. (Marketing)
