TV MONITOR/A WEEKLY LOOK AT WHO’S BUYING WHAT AND WHEN

The press release from Sky says that Seinfeld is often described as ’a show about nothing’. Certainly, when random scenes reveal someone in a restaurant being castigated for eating a sandwich with ’eww, fingers’ - it’s now cool to eat them with a knife and fork - one can acquiesce.

a restaurant being castigated for eating a sandwich with ’eww, fingers’

- it’s now cool to eat them with a knife and fork - one can

acquiesce.

But the final outing for Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine, beginning on

Sky One this week, gained record audiences in the US, with 76 million

viewers tuning in to the last episode - making it the third-highest

viewing figure in TV history (behind Mash and Cheers).

Advertisers in the first break on Sky were Coca-Cola, Pampers, Pantene,

Tampax, Pringles, the X-Files film and Magnet Kitchens.

Procter & Gamble had two very different brands in the break, Tampax and

Pringles, but both fitted the profile of the programme. The buyer for

both brands says: ’It’s a young programme with a cult audience and

appeals to the target market for both Pringles and Tampax.’

Coca-Cola’s US roots made Seinfeld a perfect environment for the brand.

The buyer explains: ’Coca-Cola likes the comedy environment and the

guaranteed high ratings were attractive.’
