UKMax, the Hollinger Telegraph-owned search engine and shopping portal, has trebled the number of visitors to its site eight months after its relaunch.
UKMax is now attracting over 250,000 users every month, officially making it the fastest growing UK internet portal.
The rise has been achieved since Dominic Riley the managing director of the Boots and Hollinger joint venture, Handbag.com, took the helm at UKMax nine months ago.
The site combines a comprehensive search engine of British and/or worldwide web sites with free e-mail facilities, news and entertainment channels and online shopping services and is designed to save users time and money online.
Riley, a former head of marketing at BBC Online, was appointed managing director of UKMax with the task of building up the site's traffic. Riley appointed Vivek Nath as business development and marketing manager to handle online advertising sales and e-commerce.
The two refocused the site concentrating on the core strength of its UK-focused search. They also incorporated character of Max who acts as your online searchmate.
According to Riley: "Nine out of ten sites offer search facilities but are alienating their users with global, 'confetti' style search retrieval. When you look at the US search and shopping market, the major portals are winning greater audience mindshare by expanding the level of shopping content and UKMax has followed a similar business model to become the site of choice for shopping."
