The 33 emojis depict exercises such as squats, burpees, the tree pose for yoga lovers, post-gym relaxation in a hot tub, and the different classes the gym chain offers.

Clare Gambardella, the European marketing director for Virgin Active, said: "At Virgin Active we’re constantly looking for new ways to inspire people to get active, both in and out of our clubs.

"With only a handful of workout emojis in the market, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to bring a bit more fun and enjoyment to people wanting to celebrate their everyday fitness achievements."

The emojis were created by Swyft Media as part of Virgin Active’s "we’ve got a workout for that" campaign by Iris.

Evan Wray, the vice president and general manager at Swyft Media, said: "Increasingly, consumers are demanding custom emojis that enable them to express their personal brand and interests – fitness being one of them."
