Vivendi to invest £110m in Scoot.com

– The internet directory service, Scoot.com has secured £110 million in new backing from French conglomerate Vivendi that will enable the company to massively increase subscriber numbers.

Scoot is aiming to increase from the current level of 19,000 subscribers to 60,000 by the end of 2000. It is predicting 200,000 by December 2002.

The Vivendi investment, which is to be spread over three years, comes as Scoot announces its European expansion plans. Vivendi interests include stakes in BSkyB and Canal Plus, both of which are to used to increase Scoot's market penetration and brand recognition.
