The Week: Advertising news - EA free fuel causes 'chaos'

Electronic Arts has caused traffic chaos by giving away £20,000 worth of free fuel to promote its new game Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.

The computer games publisher offered drivers £40 worth of free fuel at the Last Stop garage in Finsbury Park, North London, in an attempt to mirror the game, where fuel is used as a currency. The campaign attracted queues of around 50 to 60 cars at a time, with drivers waiting in line for more than an hour.
