The Week: Advertising news - Radio 1 spots get go-ahead

The BBC has decided to roll out an ad campaign for Radio 1 that was initially put on hold over fears that it looked too expensive.

Concerned it would cause a backlash from taxpayers, the trail, created by Fallon, was shelved by the BBC director-general, Mark Thompson, in April. Rather than airing the original 60-second version featuring Radio 1 DJs including Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley, Chris Moyles and Fearne Cotton, the ad has been cut into 20-second spots.
