The Week: Advertising News - Radio bans junk-food ads

New rules from the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice on junk-food advertising on the radio came into force this week.

The restrictions ban the use of celebrities, licensed characters, promotional offers and nutritional and health claims in radio ads targeting young children. All food and drink products except fresh fruit and vegetables are covered by the rules, which apply to the content of ads, but do not stipulate times of day when junk-food ads cannot be broadcast.
