The Week: City News - Murdoch to land Dow Jones

The Dow Jones board voted this week to sell the company to Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, subject to the approval of the majority shareholders, the Bancroft family.

After months of difficult negotiations and concerns over the future editorial independence of The Wall Street Journal, the 16 directors agreed to recommend News Corp's $5 billion (£2.5 billion) bid to shareholders. The board was not unanimous in its decision. Members of the Bancroft family, who control 64 per cent of the business, will meet on Monday to deliver their verdict on the sale.
