The Week: City news - WPP wins right to TNS data

TNS will provide the WPP Group with the same information it gave to GfK last week as part of its merger agreement with the market-research rival, after receiving a notice for information from WPP.

TNS previously rejected two proposals from the WPP chief executive, Sir Martin Sorrell, because it believed the offers undervalued the company. Last week, TNS and GfK agreed a £2.2 billion merger, which would make the merged entity the world's second-biggest market-research company. However, the merger could face a European Union competition probe, as it would concentrate power for TV-audience measurement.
