The Week: Media news - Cinema attendances slip

Cinema attendances fell by 19 per cent in May to 12.7 million and could be down by as much as 11 million for the year, according to newspaper reports. Overall this year, audiences have dropped by 7 per cent across January to May. Carlton Screen Advertising attributed last May's high figures to the release of Spider-Man 3, and to wet weather driving admissions in 2007.
