The Week: Media News - ESPN football bid expected

ESPN, the Disney-owned sports broadcaster, is expected to bid for a single package of the Premier League football rights after the Premier League invited bids this week for the right to televise live matches for three years from August 2010.

It is thought to be in the running for one of the six packages into which the rights are divided. This week, Sky retained the rights to the four packages it holds in a £1 billion-plus deal, while Setanta, which paid £392 million for two packages in 2006, is expected to bid again for secondary rights. covering the three seasons from 2010.
