The Week: Media news - ITV aims to cut PSB output

In its fight to increase its ratings in the digital TV market, ITV is looking to reduce its public service broadcasting output and focus on programmes that are more attractive to advertisers.

The broadcaster wants to slash £150 million from its public service programming budget by 2012, when the analogue signal is set to be switched off.

ITV's proposal is included in a submission to Ofcom, which is looking at the future of public service broadcasting.
