The Week: Media News - New men's free mag weekly

A new weekly free magazine for men with a circulation of 500,000 is due to launch in the autumn, from a company fronted by Mike Soutar, the former editor of FHM, and backed by the founder of French Connection, Stephen Marks.

The magazine, which has the working title Alpha One, will be edited by a former editor of Nuts, Phil Hilton. The publication will be aimed at 18- to 35-year-old ABC1 men and will be distributed in cities that include London, Birmingham and Manchester. The company has some high-profile financial backers as well as Marks. Sir David Arculus, the film producer Matthew Vaughn and DC Thomson, the Scottish publisher, are all involved.
