The Week: Media news - Ofcom warns of ad decline

Ofcom has warned that declining ad revenues could lead to the end of public-service broadcasting on commercial television channels.

In its review of public broadcasting, the regulator proposed handing some of the BBC's licence fee to its commercial rivals to help them boost regional news, children's programmes and other public-service programming. Other suggestions included a tax on broadcasters and direct government funding for public-service programmes.
