The Week: Online News - Yahoo! unveils ad tool

Yahoo! has launched a new display advertising tool called SmartAds, which lets companies create and customise banner ads to match users' age, gender, location and online activities.

SmartAds combines Yahoo!'s existing targeting tools with a new creative ad platform that allows the company's ad system to create customised ads automatically and change copy based on who is viewing the ad and what they are interested in. Yahoo! said the tool would help turn display advertising into direct response.
