The Week: People News - BBC to cut online services

Separately, Mark Thompson, the BBC director-general, has said the corporation plans to scale back its online operations and put its future digital and radio output under the spotlight after the analogue switch-off in 2012.

Speaking at the Voice of the Listener and Viewer Conference in London, Thompson did not outline where the cuts would be made but said to expect reductions in some kinds of programmes and content and a close examination of the future of its service portfolios.
