Western International has streamlined its account groups and hired

a handful of planner/buyers.

Following the departure of deputy media director Peter Magnani to OMD

UK, director Gary Birtles has been promoted to deputy managing director.

He will take charge of one of the two account groups that have been

formed by a consolidation of four smaller groups. Deputy managing

director Pru Parkinson will run the other group.

Birtles’ group will handle clients such as Vauxhall and Olympus.

Parkinson’s group includes Tesco and Reebok.

Magnani, who has taken the role of director of communications strategy

at OMD, handled Dolland & Aitchison and Jack Daniels. These will now be

managed by board account director Tim Allnutt.

The streamlining has led to a number of promotions for planner/buyers:

Chris Wright becomes broadcast manager; Heath Boot becomes media account

manager on Tesco and Reebok; and Usha Kapil becomes regional

manager.

Account managers Simon Burgess and Suzie Stubbs become media account

directors.

Western, headed by managing director Mike Tunnicliffe, has also begun a

recruitment drive. Louis Tansley joins as planner/buyer from Bates

Dorland. David Cross joins as a TV buyer, and Caroline Sharman joins as

an online planner.

Recently, the agency also poached Zenith TV buyer Laurie Henderson, who

takes up a post as a group head.

Business development director Lawrence Janes said: ’A year ago we had 45

people and now we’re up to 60. We’re expanding with great people.’
