Paul Woolmington, former managing director of 20/20 Media in the UK, has landed the top international media post at Young & Rubicam.

Paul Woolmington, former managing director of 20/20 Media in the

UK, has landed the top international media post at Young & Rubicam.

Woolmington, who left London 18 months ago to join Ammirati Puris Lintas

in New York as worldwide media director, will review Y&R’s global media

strategy as the network makes media its top priority in 1998.

Based in New York, he assumes the title of president and chief media

officer, international media operations, and will chair Y&R’s worldwide

media council.

Y&R, the fifth largest advertising organisation in the world, is

expected to become publicly owned this year. It is already reviewing its

media options, which include creating a standalone Y&R media brand that

would replace its existing partnership with Euro RSCG, Mediapolis.

The Mediapolis brand exists only in the UK and a handful of other

markets.

The network also has a joint venture with Dentsu in Asia. In the US, the

Y&R’s media offering is branded the Media Edge.

Woolmington said he would start the job in early February with an open

mind. He added: ’It was an agonising decision to leave APL, but when I

looked at the opportunity, I couldn’t refuse it. Y&R is one of the

strongest global networks.’

Woolmington will also sit on the partnership board of Y&R Inc and the

operating committee of the Y&R/WCJ Partnership.
