The World: Boston - Radio Shack hires Arnold for $250m ad account

Radio Shack, the American consumer electronics retailer, has awarded its $250 million advertising account to the Boston-based Arnold Worldwide.

Advertising was previously created by the company's in-house agency, Circle R Group, but Radio Shack decided to seek outside help in a bid to revitalise its brand following a drop in sales in 2004.

The announcement follows a ten-week review with Deutsch LA, TBWA\Chiat\ Day and Carmichael Lynch all pitching. Arnold Worldwide was not initially on the pitchlist but, following an unsolicited approach, it was asked to present ideas.

Ed Eskandarian, the chief executive of Arnold, said: "Radio Shack has tremendous brand equity."
