The World: Bratislava - DMGT strengthens Slovak portfolio with Pravda

Daily Mail & General Trust will now run the Slovak broadsheet Pravda after its Northcliffe International division acquired a majority stake in Perex, the newspaper's owner.

The publisher bought 99.94 per cent of Perex shares, with the final 0.06 per cent remaining with the previous owners.

Pravda has the second-highest readership in Slovakia after the tabloid Novy Cas and boasts a print run of 73,000 copies. Its nearest rival is the quality title Sme, which has a print run of 63,000 copies.

The acquisition is DMGT's second investment in the Slovak market, after its acquisition in 2004 of the country's biggest classified ads daily Aviziao.
