The World: Copenhagen - Freesheet market hots up with two title launches

Two new freesheets have entered the Danish market in a move to counter the upcoming launch of the Icelandic media group 365 Media's Nyhedsavisen.

Last week, JP/Politiken launched 24 Timer, while Berlingske Officin launched Dato. Both papers are published five days a week, on weekdays.

Nyhedsavisen will be launched later this year. The initial circulation has been set for 700,000 copies and the title will be published Monday to Saturday.

However, analysts are concerned there is insufficient advertising funding for six national freesheets in Denmark.

Dato, 24 Timer and Nyhedsavisen are all delivered directly to homes in the morning, whereas Denmark's top two titles, Metro Express and JP/Politiken's Urban, are both commuter newspapers.
