The World: Hong Kong - TV station blocks campaign for parent's rival

A Hong Kong TV station has refused to air a campaign promoting a new mobile internet service because it competes with a similar service being offered by its parent company.

Now TV will not screen ads for SmarTone-Vodafone because it vies with an offering by PCCW, its owner.

SmarTone's agency, ZenithOptimedia, is understood to be in talks with Now TV in a bid to get the campaign on air.

Last year, Now TV banned CSL's 1010 campaign, a decision that prompted an investigation by the local advertising association.

The SmarTone service allows customers to access video, podcasts, radio and other media formats from their handsets.
