The World: New York - Activia maker to pay consumers for health claims

The Dannon Company (Danone outside the US) will reimburse consumers for up to $100 worth of Activia and DanActive yoghurt purchases in order to settle a class-action lawsuit that accused it of overstating health benefits in ads.

The company reached the settlement following the two-year dispute, and will now create a $35 million fund to reimburse qualified consumers, as well as implementing significant changes to the marketing and labelling of its products.

Following the agreement, Coughlin, Stoia, Geller, Rudman & Robbins, the law firm that secured the settlement, has announced that it is also preparing to pursue a similar case against Yoplait.
