The World: New York - Google to shed jobs as part of sales restructure

Google is set to cut 200 jobs from its global sales and marketing team, as part of a restructure of its worldwide sales operation.

The restructure will predominantly affect North America, where half of the lay-offs will take place, and Australasia, where Google is shutting down its Melbourne office and consolidating roles across its Australian and New Zealand operations.

The move is the latest in a series of cuts at the company, as it looks to tackle the economic downturn.

In January, Google axed 100 staff, with another 40 cut last month after the company closed its radio ad sales business.
