The World: New York - VNU to sell for $9bn to a six-strong consortium

VNU, the global publisher and owner of Nielsen Media Research, has accepted a deal to sell the business to a consortium of six companies for $9 billion.

The group of investors, which includes AlpInvest Partners, The Blackstone Group, The Carlyle Group, Hellman & Friedman, Kholberg Kravis Roberts and Thomas H Lee Partners, will keep VNU together as an integrated company for at least 18 months after closing the deal, but did not disclose plans for after that time.

Aad Jacobs, the chairman of VNU's supervisory board, said that after careful analysis of various alternatives, the deal best served the interest of the shareholders.
