The World: Seoul - Korea calls last orders for alcoholic drink giveaways

The Korean Public Health Association has clamped down on alcoholic drinks producers running promotional giveaways to increase sales in the domestic market.

The organisation contacted major brands, including Jinro, Heineken and Budweiser, telling them to immediately stop any promotional offers.

The move follows Government outrage at a competition held by Jinro, which offered $3 million in prize money.

Promotional campaigns have long been illegal under the Korean constitution; however, the Government has traditionally tolerated small-scale initiatives.
