Pinnegar, who was the publication's former advertising manager, will work alongside Andrew Rashbass, the former Economist Group chief information officer and managing director of economist.com. Rashbass becomes the worldwide publisher of the title.
The Asia-Pacific role was created as part of a restructuring programme instigated by Rashbass. The process will see a similar position established in the US, with the advertising and publishing roles being split in the UK and Europe.
The changes to the structure come as The Economist announced that its global circulation now exceeds one million.
