The World: Sydney - Commercial TV ad revenues down 5.3 per cent

Commercial TV in Australia is battling declining ad business, with metropolitan broadcasters losing more than 5.3 per cent of their revenue in the second half of 2008.

Total revenues across the whole metropolitan and regional TV markets were down by more than 4.4 per cent to AUS$1.96 billion, according to new figures.

Perth's metropolitan free-to-air networks bore the brunt of a slowing economy, losing more than 6.5 per cent of ad revenue in the period. Brisbane and Sydney's metro networks lost 6.06 per cent and 5.79 per cent respectively.

The Seven Network is still taking the biggest slice of the TV ad market with 41.38 per cent. Nine secured 30.87 per cent of revenues, while Ten took a 27.74 per cent share.
