The World: Washington - Bid to postpone digital transition in US fails

A bill to delay the digital transition in the US from 17 February to 12 June has failed in the House of Representatives.

Last month, the US Senate passed the DTV delay bill unanimously and the House of Representatives was expected to follow suit. The bill would then have been signed into law by President Obama. However, Republicans blocked a delay. They backed legislation that would authorise $250 million to allow the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to begin distributing coupons for discounts on signal conversion boxes.
