The World: Washington - Obama delays date of digital TV switchover

President Barack Obama has officially put back the date of the digital TV switchover to 12 June, after a survey showed that more than 5 per cent of American homes were not ready for the 17 February deadline.

All major broadcasters have agreed that they will honour the new deadline, although nearly 500 full-power TV stations have indicated to the Federal Communications Commission that they would have preferred to stick to the original February switchover date.

The National Association of Broadcasters has already created a new ad campaign to publicise the new transition date.
