WPP Group buys into US marketing firm

- WPP Group has acquired a 49 per cent stake in the Florida-based Market Segment Group, a marketing, research and training company, for an undisclosed sum.

Market Segment specialises in market research for the Hispanic, African-American, Asian and mature markets. Its clients include over 50 of the Fortune 500 companies.

According to John Zweig, chief executive officer of WPP's Specialist Communications group: "As the US is transformed into a market where ethnic minorities become the majority, it is critical that we help our clients and ourselves to move up in the multi-cultural learning curve."
