WPP set to acquire the Food Group

The New York-based company, provides services ranging from trade advertising and promotions to menu development for some of the US's largest food retailers and manufacturers. Its clients include Sara Lee, Nabisco, and Cadbury Schweppes.

The deal would allow WPP to expand services that its two main advertising agency networks, J Walter Thompson and Ogilvy & Mather, could offer core clients including Kraft Foods and Unilever.

It is understood that the two have signed a letter of intent although terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The deal is expected to be closed within the next two weeks.

Executives at WPP's London headquarters declined to comment.
