Young & Rubicam has won the dollars 7 million pan-European Moet &
Chandon account after a head-to-head pitch against BBDO Europe.
The initial pitch-list also included Publicis, J. Walter Thompson and
McCann-Erickson, before it was narrowed down to the final two. Saatchi &
Saatchi, the incumbent, did not repitch although its work for the brand
will continue to run throughout the summer.
Y&R Europe’s pitch was led by the Paris office, which will develop
creative work for the Moet & Chandon brand. A new campaign is expected
to appear in September, running in all the major European markets - the
UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France. Local Y&R offices will adapt the
work to suit their own markets.
Media on the business will also be handled by Y&R Europe.
Moet & Chandon is the leading champagne brand in the UK. Saatchis won
the business from Bartle Bogle Hegarty, which had held the account for
18 months, in November 1995.
