Qualitative Research Executive - Ethnographer and Semiotician

Are you looking for a role that stretches you to think beyond the normal, to understand not what consumers think but try to understand behaviour and help companies manipulate that? We are looking for an ethnographer and cultural strategist for a leading research and consultancy firm in Singapore. They work with some of the world's biggest brands and aim to understand their products in the context of the different cultures that the companies operate and ensure that markets are understood to gain maximum return on investment.

This is a really good opportunity to work with a company known for its training and promotion, promoting people joining the company as graduates into management positions throughout their time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • You will be trained in analyzing cultural data, from live interviews, to textual and visual material
  • Visual and textual semiotics - analysis of interpretation of advertisements, media, and academic texts
  • Writing proposals and debriefs
  • Conduct of ethnographic fieldwork locally and overseas
  • Managing client relationships
  • Writing and making presentations to clients and internally
  • Monitoring and management of projects

WHO YOU ARE

  • Well versed in culture, history, geography, and having a curiosity about people and societies
  • Interested in brands and design thinking
  • Strong social skills, with the ability to observe and listen
  • Very strong communication skills, and able to express exceptionally well in English
  • Strong visual and textual analytical skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Independent, proactive and self-starting

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in the Humanities: History, Literature, Philosophy, Asian studies and interdisciplinary studies
  • Preference for some experience in Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, or Ethnography
