The Grey agency in London is facing legal action by its former
financial chief, Roy Wilson, in what is claimed to be one of the first
cases after new Government legislation to protect ’whistleblowers’.
Wilson, 50, a key figure behind the scenes in a number of major deals
and a member of Grey’s group board, was sacked in March after almost 11
years with the agency. Now he is taking the group to an employment
tribunal, claiming he was fired for making a disclosure to managers
which they found embarrassing.
Grey said it would be defending the action, which is one of the first
affecting the industry since the Public Interest Disclosure Act became
law at the beginning of July.
Grey said in a statement that there was no substance in the claim made
by Wilson who, it said, had been made redundant after a reorganisation
of the European network.
’In our view this application is an attempt by Mr Wilson to obtain
additional monies beyond his redundancy package,’ the company said.
