- Leo Burnett, who died in 1971 aged 79, has been named as one of the 20 most influential business leaders of the 20th century by Time magazine.
The man who started the eponymously named Chicago based advertising agency in 1935 was responsible for some of the world's most lasting advertising imagery, including the Marlboro man; Tony the Tiger and the Jolly Green Giant.
Burnett is the only advertising executive named by Time in an issue dedicated to business leaders. There were two other advertising executives in the running for the Time slot: Bill Bernbach and David Ogilvy.
The issue is to come out on Monday and is titled 'Builders and Titans'. It will be accompanied by a television programme broadcast on CBS at 10 pm EST and PST on Wednesday.
Among others named are Walt Disney and Ray Kroc - of McDonald's Corp - both of which are now clients of Burnetts. The list also includes Henry Ford and Bill Gates. The only woman to be included is Estee Lauder, founder of the cosmetics company.
