Pot Noodle gets own musical at Edinburgh Fringe Festival

LONDON - Pot Noodle is set to tread the boards in an innovative move that will see the "slag of all snacks" launch its own play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

'Pot Noodle: The Musical' is being developed as a stage production by advertising agency Mother London.

The play is based on some of the creative concepts used in the brand's recent advertising.

It will tell the story of a team of dancing, singing factory workers who have a happy time plucking noodles from trees and delivering them to their millions of fans.

However, the fun comes to an end when the factory owner is killed by his evil brother, leading to a tale of family tragedy and revenge.

The show, which will run at the Assembly in Edinburgh from July 31 to August 25, is heavily indebted to the songs and themes that have run through Mother's recent un-PC Pot Noodle TV campaigns.

The idea of a benevolent Pot Noodle world first appeared in a TV campaign featuring a fictitious Welsh town of noodle miners, while the songs that will appear in the production have come from the recent "Pot Noodle says" ad campaign.

It is not the first time Mother has broken new ground with a brand this year. Earlier this year, the agency produced a feature film funded by Eurostar with Shane Meadows, the acclaimed British director of 'This Is England'.

The film, called 'Somers Town', won the top prize at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

Excellent...that's what you pay creative agencies for. Other less advebturous brands and agencies should look and learn. However, you can't help but feel that it doesn't bode well for the future of the Fringe

I would have liked to see the play based on the 'prostitute' concept rather than the Welsh miners - it was a far more funnier.
