Lowe will be responsible for mentoring the planning department on strategic and creative thinking, as well as helping to develop a new business strategy.

She will also work closely with AIS managing partner Stuart Archibald on a number of forthcoming projects for the agency's O2 business.

AIS has also promoted Bob Udale to replace Lowe as planning director at the agency, a role that will see him overseeing the strategic guidance of all existing and new business opportunities.

Lowe has spent six years as planning director at AIS, and joined from Bartle Bogle Hegarty. Udale was poached from EHS Brann in January 2005, where he had worked as a business planning director. At AIS he was brought in to develop strategic planning for the agency's flagship O2 account, and has since also worked across EDF Energy and Skoda.

Jon Ingall, the managing partner of AIS, said: "It's important that our planning department forges the way in strategic integrated thinking, and Carole's promotion to executive planning director is the logical next step in helping us continue in the same vein."
