Barclays goes a bit post-modern in its latest ad from Bartle Bogle Hegarty with the disembodied voice of Stephen Merchant making a comment on the joke inherent within the strategy.

Barclays is highlighting how consumers can "take one small step" towards improving their financial situation by switching to its banking services. The campaign, by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, aims to show how Barclays allows its consumers to have greater control over their finances.
Steve Kershaw, the Bartle Bogle Hegarty group director, has retired after 21 years at the agency. Kershaw joined in 1986 from Cadbury to run the Asda account. He also worked on the agency's Barclays account and had a stint as the new-business director.
Nigel Bogle is reducing his stake in Bartle Bogle Hegarty to free up shares for new shareholders. The agency's 51 per cent shareholding is currently held by 49 people. This number is set to increase over the next year.
Barclaycard has chosen the former Friends star Jennifer Aniston to front a new campaign, launching this June, while Gary Oldman and Donald Sutherland will replace Samuel L Jackson in Bartle Bogle Hegarty's "fluent in finance" ads for Barclays.
