Jarhead

Dog tags on a oil-black background recall one of the biggest environmental disasters of recent years after Saddam Hussein's retreating men set fire to the oilfields of Kuwait in the first Gulf War. 'Jarhead', based on the autobiographical novel by Anthony Swofford, is the nickname for US Marines. The Sam "American Beauty" Mendes film follows Swoff (Jake Gyllenhaal) from boot camp to active duty as a sniper, is an irreverent and true account laden with dark humour that and surreal and poignant moments as the 1990 war is again brought to life on the screen.
