What have you been proudest of this year?

Maybe you leave me out next year. I've had a good run. I won't moan about it – promise. The answer, of course, is my family. My wife and four little ones. Always. Sorry.

And what's been your biggest disappointment?

The answer to the above. Lacks imagination but authentic nonetheless.

When was the last time you surprised yourself?

Today. I watched Manchester United versus Liverpool. We won 3-1 and I only watched it back twice.

If you could change one thing about the industry at the moment, what would it be (and why)?

I never think of myself as working in "the" industry. I work for Interpublic and love it.

How do you get your creative juices flowing?

Walk in the Lake District.

You're planning a fun night out. Who from the industry would be your (fantasy) playmates (and why)?

I would invite Phil G for a curry in Beaconsfield. My fantasy is that he pays.

The internet has been banned. What do you miss most (and why)?

Vivino.

What's the last Google search you did?

Dave Beasant. Ex-Wimbledon goalie. Just seen him at the Old Amersham Heritage Day. It's all go out here in Bucks, you know.

The robots are coming. What would you get yours to do for you?

I would ask them to enforce – very politely – British Airways' priority boarding because BA doesn't.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Lou Macari.

All the world's culture (art, music, literature etc) is about to be destroyed. What one thing would you save (and why)?

Glyndebourne.

I'm still here because…

I'm forever thankful for who I married and the jobs that have come my way. Or as Disraeli said: "I feel a very unusual sensation. If it is not indigestion, it must be gratitude."
