What have you been proudest of this year?

Our hoverboard for Lexus.

And what's been your biggest disappointment?

My three biggest disappointments are Robert Senior, Luke Taylor and Moray MacLennan.

When was the last time you surprised yourself?

When we thrashed Martin and his WPP team at cricket.

If you could change one thing about the industry at the moment, what would it be (and why)?

Bring it all back together.

How do you get your creative juices flowing?

Undisclosed.

You're planning a fun night out. Who from the industry would be your (fantasy) playmates (and why)?

Simon Clemmow and Charles Inge.

The internet has been banned. What do you miss most (and why)?

Moray MacLennan’s filthy Snapchats.

What's the last Google search you did?

I cleared my history.

The robots are coming. What would you get yours to do for you?

Answer questions from WPP.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Chairman of WPP.

All the world's culture (art, music, literature etc) is about to be destroyed. What one thing would you save (and why)?

Campaign is more important than all the rest of it put together.

I'm still here because…

I haven’t got to second stage of interview anywhere else.

The lowdown:

Johnny Hornby is now very much a man of the world, spending more time this year building up The&Partnership proposition in key markets such as New York and Canada. It’s a tough challenge to develop a semi-independent networked group at scale, even when you’ve got the mighty WPP as your significant minority shareholder. Still, CHI & Partners made global headlines with its worldwide ad for Lexus, and Hornby and his group remain top of the list of rumoured options to sort out any WPP problems: with Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R wobbling in the UK this year, gossip went into overdrive that The&Partnership would sell the rest of its business to WPP and merge to bolster the Y&R network. Hornby says no. We say never say never.
