Give us one reason why advertising is still brilliant in 2019.

#bloodnormal. Advertising works. It makes business work. Better still, it works to make the world think, cry, fight, soar, do – and change.

In 2019, I'll be using blockchain to…

You decide to launch a brand. What is it called and what does it do?

I already have one: Violet Vintage, an online jewellery brand, featured as One to Worship by The Sunday Times Style #spon (hey, we’re all in sales, as David Ogilvy told us).

When was the last time you felt professionally vulnerable and why?

The half hour waiting backstage at OMR. Wasn’t sure my heart or my Tena Lady would hold out.

Who is your favourite Instagrammer and why?

Erm professional suicide but I was an early lapser I'm afraid. Used to like waverider_. Contemplated getting back on for Paul-danan-official but I'm running too low on bandwidth.

You win the lottery. What would you do first?

The obvious and vacuous. Friends, boat, sun, inappropriate behaviour, all while planning my philanthropic contributions, high on Dark and Stormies.

Name one thing you think is criminally overrated by industry, society or culture and explain why.

Meat. Read Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer if you haven’t already, and I bet you’ll reappraise your intake.

Name one thing you think is criminally underrated by industry, society or culture and explain why.

Representation of women’s sport in mainstream media. Only 7% of total sports coverage across traditional broadcasters is of women’s sport, and women’s sport accounts for a mere 0.4% of sponsorship money. It’s astonishing we’re still in this position in 2019: modern brands need to step up.

What is your go-to boxset binge?

Bizarrely my 11-year-old, Betty, has recently got into Friends so I’m watching that with her, via YouTube, obvs. It’s like opening a 1990s time capsule. Ah, the emotive power of video...

Enough's enough: it's time the next Doctor Who was…

Back creating great watercooler moments beyond "lead character has vagina" shocker.

If you weren't you, who in the industry would you like to be?

Philippa Brown. I have always respected her for being an inspiring, talented, warm and effective leader. But mostly I’d choose her because I admire her commitment to having fun and what I interpret as excellent not-giving-a-fuckness in terms of irrelevant conventions.
