Bye-bye the decade with no name. What are you relieved to draw a line under?

I'm just bang up up for the new Roaring 20s. Flappers, spats, general strikes…

What’s your biggest hope for the decade ahead?

That, politically, the sane defeat the mad; the clear-sighted beat the blind.

And what’s top of your professional to-do list for the 2020s?

Be less average.

You have to job swap with someone in our industry for one month. Who would it be with and why?

Mel Arrow, BMB's ace new head of strategy. It would be like having a radical brain/attitude and demeanor upgrade.

Who is your best friend in the industry and why?

No friends, only competitors.

What do you think the Friday feeling is?

A half-forgotten endline.

Who or what would you put into room 101 and why?

Sprints, especially really agile ones. If I could only catch the bastards.

If you could uninvent one piece of technology, what would you choose and why?

Cookies, the digital winnets of surveillance capitalism.

In the spirit of embracing failure… What has been your biggest screw-up?

An ad that was statistically proven by Millward Brown to generate no extra brand awareness, no matter how much money you spent on it. It was an utterly unprecedented wisp of brand-obscuring fog.

What do you do to stay match fit?

Symbolist poetry, velvet and burpees.

What would be your darts walk-on music and why?

Chopin Etude Op 10 No 1 in C major. It would quell all that rowdy enthusiasm and provide an impressive and instructional display of finger stretch.
