ABC confirms BBC Online as leading UK site

- BBC Online has been confirmed as the leading UK-based Internet content site within only a few months of its launch in December 1997, according to figures released today from web auditing body ABC//electronic.

BBC Online achieved 21 million page impressions from direct user requests from over 900,000 users during March, in the first ever audit by the ABC of the BBC Online.

In all, the total number of page requests totalled more than 66 million, this includes a further 45 million page impressions requested by software agents.

For the same month beeb@theBBC, the corporation's joint venture with IT company ICL recorded 3.5 million page impressions from human requests and 12 million page impressions in total.
