KPMG, the third largest of the ’Big Five’ accountancy firms, has

appointed HHCL & Partners to work on its brand positioning.

The agency secured the business without a pitch. KPMG uses HHCL’s parent

company, Chime, on other areas of its marketing communications.

The precise nature of the project HHCL will work on is still unclear -

the agency would not comment on the appointment.

The appointment is not expected to affect KPMG’s relationship with its

global agency of record, Lowe Lintas & Partners. The New York office of

the agency, formerly called Lowe & Partners/SMS, currently works on the

company’s dollars 60 million global account.

Lowe developed the ’KPMG. It’s time for clarity’ campaign, which broke

in September 1998. It was the latest in a stream of large-scale branding

campaigns for a number of firms in the consultancy sector, Andersen

Consulting and Ernst & Young among them.
