Actors with chips on their shoulders

McCain oven chips will be the unlikely stars of this year's 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala, hosted by Kevin Spacey at the Old Vic on Sunday.

The event, in which writers, actors and producers are given 24 hours to write and perform a play, will include performances from Christian Slater, Ralf Little and Fiona Shaw.

Each year, participants are given an object around which the play should be based. This year, that object will be a packet of McCain oven chips.

"We wanted to do something theatrical to follow up our 'chips glorious chips' campaign, and what better way than getting involved in a play," Simon Eyles, McCain's marketing director, said.
